Superficial Peelings exist since millenniums. To have a beautiful skin, Egyptian women took baths in sheep milk (rich in lactic acid), Roman women used the tannin of wine barrels (tartaric acid) and West-Indian women used sugar cane (glycolic acid). The effect of these gestures is to smooth the surface of the skin by acting on the keratinocytes and to stimulate the dermic synthesis. Of course, the products that we have now at disposal are much easier to use and especially more foreseeable in their effects with a satisfying reproducibility. Scientifically The effects of superficial peelings on the skin have widely been studied from the biochemical point of view as well as from the histology. - The different cellular populations regularize themselves. - The horned layer becomes thinner, but the epidermis in its whole finds its thickness back. - The activity of the melanocytes (cells making the melanin pigment which colours the skin) is normalized and the spots can decrease or disappear. - The derma finds a bigger density of the collagen fibres back. So the clinical effects that are noticed are - A clear improvement of the complexion. - A decrease of the brown spots (as the pregnancy mask). - A decrease of the wrinkles. - An improvement of the acne by an anti-seborrheic and keratolityc action. Of course the effects are real but weak according to what is obtained by medium or deep peelings. The result is maximal if and only if home-work cares are rightly respected. Method The doctor prepares the skin with a Cleanser that he rinses. Then he applies the product of peeling, glycolic acid or low concentrated TCA gel or mask, and controls its penetration. Such a peeling is done in around 10 minutes. This gesture must be repeated every 7 to 15 days according to the case. 4 to 6 sessions are necessary. The concentrations and the duration of application are gradually modulated by the doctor. Continuations The principle of the superficial peeling is not to lead to visible continuations and we can only notice a sly flush during 30 minutes. However, if the doctor plans it, it is possible that the skin slightly desquamates during 2 to 4 days. Our opinion Excellent and discreet technique for irregular complexions, spots and wrinkles. Incredible brilliant feat!
